New York City Food Bank

Saturday June 9th, 2018

North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place worked with FoodBank2Go in order to help pack boxes of food to be distributed by FoodBank2Go trucks. Boxes were packed in the sailing school classroom allowing for crew who couldn't commit to a day long event, but could come help pack on their lunch breaks or in between charters.Teams competed to see who could pack the most boxes. 4000 meals worth of food in 400 boxes were packed and delivered to community centers in the Bronx in one day!

FoodBank2Go is part of Food Bank for New York City. Their mission is to end hunger by organizing food, information and support for community survival, empowerment, and dignity. Food Bank For New York City has been working to end food poverty in the five boroughs for 35 years. As the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, they employ a multifaceted approach centered on helping low-income New Yorkers overcome their circumstances and achieve greater independence.

If you were unable to attend our day of community service, but would still like to help, please feel free to donate directly to the organization.  Monetary donations can be provided through the Food Bank for New York's Donations page.

Our number one goal is to work together inspiring others through the act of giving back our time, support efforts, accessible resources, goods and services.

Coalition for the Homeless:
          Camp Homeward Bound

Saturday, June 10th, 2017

Thank you to all volunteers that participated in the "2017 Inspire Giving through You".  For 2017, North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place, Newport Yacht Club and Marina, and the IGY Corporate team in New York, worked with Camp Homeward Bound.  The team was very excited to work with the counselors to prepare the camp grounds, cabins, and activities for the campers arrival!

Camp Homeward Bound is the nation’s first summer sleep-away camp designed specifically for homeless kids. The camp site is located at Harriman State Park in Upstate New York.

Every summer, Camp Homeward Bound holds three 16-day sessions with 100 campers per session. Campers range in age from seven to 15, with older kids able to return as Counselors-in-Training and Junior Counselors.

Camp seamlessly blends engaging activities that foster literacy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills with active, recreational fun like hiking, swimming, sports, dance and so much more.

Goals for this year:
  •  Clean-up & set up of the camp
  •  Organize materials & supplies
  •  Minor upgrades & repairs around the facility
IGY Marina staff and volunteers donated their time in helping get the camp ready for the campers. This has been a fun team building activity for staff and is also of course a very rewarding experience for all who participated.

If you were unable to attend our day of community service, but would still like to help, please feel free to donate directly to the organization.  Monetary donations can be provided through the Coalition for the Homeless' Donations Page and food and clothing donations can be sent to: 129 Fulton Street, New York, NY 10038.
