Coalition for the Homeless:
          Camp Homeward Bound

Saturday, June 10th, 2017

For 2017, North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place, Newport Yacht Club and Marina, and the IGY Corporate team in New York, will be working with Camp Homeward Bound again this year.  The team is very excited to work with the counselors to prepare the camp grounds, cabins, and activities for the campers arrival!

Camp Homeward Bound is the nation’s first summer sleep-away camp designed specifically for homeless kids. The camp site is located at Harriman State Park in Upstate New York.

Every summer, Camp Homeward Bound holds three 16-day sessions with 100 campers per session. Campers range in age from seven to 15, with older kids able to return as Counselors-in-Training and Junior Counselors.

Camp seamlessly blends engaging activities that foster literacy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills with active, recreational fun like hiking, swimming, sports, dance and so much more.

Goals for this year:
  •  Clean-up & set up of the camp
  •  Organize materials & supplies
  •  Minor upgrades & repairs around the facility
IGY Marina staff and volunteers will donate their time in helping get the camp ready for the campers. This was a fun team building activity for staff last year and is also of course a very rewarding experience for all who participate. We look forward to seeing returning faces this year and hope to see some new ones!

If you're unable to attend our day of community service, but would still like to help, please feel free to donate directly to the organization.  Monetary donations can be provided through the Coalition for the Homeless' Donations Page and food and clothing donations can be sent to: 129 Fulton Street, New York, NY 10038.
