AMERICAN YACHT HARBOR SERVES AS HOST MARINA FOR ANNUAL WAHOO WIND-UP
08 Oct 2009ST. THOMAS, USVI (September 22, 2009): The American Yacht Harbor Marina on St. Thomas will once again serve as the home marina, as the Virgin Islands Gamefishing Club (VIGFC) presents its annual Toyota of St. Thomas Wahoo Windup on November 1. One of the final fishing events of the season, The Wind-up is just one of many signature fishing tournaments that take place at the marina throughout the year. American Yacht Harbor is considered one of the top sportfishing marinas in the Virgin Islands and is part of the Island Global Yachting (IGY) collection of marinas and nautical lifestyle destinations.
“We are pleased to welcome back the Wahoo Wind-up to American Yacht Harbor,” said Joseph Walling, general manager of the marina. “This year’s tournament promises to be a tremendous success, and we are expecting nearly 40 vessels with over 130 fishermen to launch from our facility. We are so honored to be a part of this, and all the other wonderful VIGFC events throughout the year.”
The VIGFC is an active fishing club with a schedule of nine events each year, encompassing the full spectrum of fishing to suit all organization members, and species in the Virgin Islands. Members of the VIGFC are a distinguished group of anglers having set world records, winning TBF awards for most tagged Blue Marlin & Sailfish, and the Club was the winner of the inaugural TBF Club Conservation Challenge. Out of 16 sport fishing clubs, participants reported tagging 367 billfish, the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club won with 207 tags -- a tribute to the member anglers and their dedication to the conservation of the world’s billfish population.
