RODNEY BAY MARINA HOSTS 19TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH TOURNAMENT

ST. LUCIA , WEST INDIES (September 15, 2009):  The Rodney Bay Marina has been selected as the new host marina for 19th Annual International Billfish Tournament.
The marina is partnering with the St. Lucia Game Fishing Association (SLGFA) to present this prestigious fishing event on September 28 through October 2, 2009.

“We are pleased to welcome the International Billfish Tournament to the Rodney Bay Marina,” said Adam Foster, general manager of the Rodney Bay Marina.  “This tournament has an outstanding reputation and we are expecting over two dozen vessels to be berthed at our marina for the event.  The selection of Rodney Bay Marina as the host location is a tribute to the spectacular renovation of the marina, which has just been completed, and reflects the fact that Rodney Bay Marina is now the most luxurious and best-equipped marina in the region.”

This SLGFA tournament, a leg of the Southern Caribbean Billfish Circuit, highlights the spectacular fishing which can be found in and around the waters of St. Lucia during the autumn, when marlin and other billfish are prevalent.  In addition to the outstanding fishing, a full schedule of special events have been planned for the tournament from nightly parties and live music to fashion shows, wine and rum tastings and much more.

Situated on St. Lucia, the Rodney Bay Marina is part of the Island Global Yachting (IGY) collection of marinas and nautical lifestyle destinations.  The Marina recently underwent a multimillion dollar renovation that transformed the property into the Southern Caribbean’s premier megayacht destination, and now features 248 fully-reconstructed slips and a new megayacht pier offering 32 berths with the highest quality of support facilities.  For 17 years, the Marina has been the completion stop for the famous Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), a grueling 2,700 nautical mile voyage undertaken by more than 230 yachtsmen each year.

Rodney Bay Marina was acquired by IGY in early 2007.  The company considers the marina as a cornerstone of its portfolio in the Caribbean and is dedicated to showcasing the marina and the island of St. Lucia as one of top megayacht  destinations in the world. Already a leading center for yachting, sailing and sport fishing, the Rodney Bay Marina also offers a 4.5 acre boatyard and is situated in a well-protected hurricane hole.  The Rodney Bay Marina was established in 1986 by Arch Marez, a California-based entrepreneur who died in 2005. Through the years, the Rodney Bay Marina has become the center of yachting tourism on the island of St. Lucia, complementing the luxury hotels and condominiums which support its northern tourism belt.  For reservations and more information on the newly renovated Rodney Bay Marina, please click to www.igy-rodneybay.com.

Rodney Bay Marina is just one of IGY’s collection of top sportfishing destinations throughout the world.  It is supplemented by, among others, American Yacht Harbor in St. Thomas (USVI), Marina Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, and the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina in New York.
