IGY Marinas Expands Inspire Giving through You Global Community Initiative with over 200 Volunteers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA
JUNE 21st, 2016

IGY is expressing an enormous amount of appreciation to all volunteers for their contributed resources, time, and ongoing support of its worldwide outreach endeavors. Between the event in February and the most recent event on June 11th, 2016, over 500 volunteers participated in the globally successful community service “Inspire Giving through You” initiative.
On June 11th, 2016, over 200 volunteers and team members from around the world donated their time and efforts to the “Inspire Giving through You” community outreach initiative with eight (8) participating IGY marinas and corporate offices and both Applied Technology Management’s (ATM) U.S. corporate offices. These community outreach events ranged from animal adoption, to home and facility improvements/repairs and construction, to supporting our active duty military personnel overseas with charitable donations for care packages.

In appreciation to all participating volunteers, Tom Mukamal, CEO of IGY Marinas, stated, “This event is continuously building on the positive influence IGY has on its global communities. I was able to see first-hand how successful the participants’ efforts were. A genuine impact has clearly been made at each location and we now have a foundation on which to grow this effort.”

Montauk, New York: Sweetest Dog Rescue - The Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina hosted an animal adoption day where volunteers consisting of IGY staff and local patrons assisted with the preparation and caring of dogs.  The volunteers assisted with responsibilities such as walking, bathing dogs, and cleaning up. The Sweetest Dog Rescue actively rescues dogs, providing quality care and a safe haven while searching for new families.

Manhattan, New York: Coalition for the Homeless - IGY volunteers and staff (including Tom Mukamal and his family) from North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place and Newport Yacht Club & Marina donated time in helping set up Camp Homeward Bound (CHB), the nation’s first sleep-away summer camp designed specifically for children in despairing situations. The camp site is located at Harriman State Park in upstate New York.

New York City, New York: New York Cares Foundation - Volunteers helped the NY CARES food and pantry service by receiving online orders, packing grocery bags, and delivering requested items to those in need.

St. Petersburg, Florida: Tampa Bay Watch - Participants dedicated their time to the restoration of Tampa Bay’s local estuaries. Volunteers and IGY staff assisted with the removal of beach debris and collected fishing line from 40 different recycling stations which will be sent to the Berkley Conservation Institute and recycled into tackle boxes and other fishing equipment.

Bocas del Toro, Panama: Escuela De Bastimentos - IGY staff and volunteers from Red Frog Marina donated computers, technology equipment, and provided training to help educate the staff on how to use the computer programs as teaching tools. As an on-going endeavor, the staff will visit the school teachers and children to help with technology upgrades and modernizations in the classroom.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida: The Military Heroes Support Foundation (MHSF) - IGY staff and volunteers collected donations and assisted with preparing care packages for the overseas troops.  Donation drop-off locations included Maritime Professional Training (MPT) and Ward’s Marine Electric, both located in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, IGY Marinas and volunteers partnered with the Marine Industry Association of South Florida for a Habitat for Humanity build day which provides affordable home ownership opportunities for working families of moderate income.

Greenville, South Carolina: A Child’s Haven - Volunteers committed to the development of structures to the imagination playground space of the facility. IGY crews spent hours digging holes and installing sun-shade structures, hammocks and completing additional upgrades to the exterior of the facility.

Charleston, South Carolina: Habitat for Humanity - Volunteers from ATM provided a helping hand in the construction and development of two brand new affordable homes for working families of moderate income. The project originates with the idea of giving a “hand-up not a hand-out.”

Gainesville, Florida: The PACE Center for Girls - IGY and ATM staff and volunteers participated in the outreach.  Contributors provided assistance in upgrading the nonprofit facility. Improvements consisted of the installation of recreational equipment, landscaping services and minor repairs around the center.

After the events, all participating volunteers and staff were invited back to their home sites for an appreciation party to celebrate a day of hard work. IGY crews accomplished more than imagined and volunteers went above and beyond with their supportive efforts. IGY Marinas would like to extend a huge thank you to those who contributed to the success of the “Inspire Giving through You” Community Outreach 2016!
