Yacht Haven Grande Incident Contained, No Reported Injuries

ST. THOMAS, USVI March 15, 2016

Earlier today, a fire occurred on a vessel at The Yacht Haven Grande Marina. All parties are believed to be safe with no injuries reported. The marina crew and security team responded immediately alongside emergency services. Due to the nature of the fire, it could not be extinguished. To ensure the safety of neighboring vessels and their crews, the U.S. Coast Guard relocated the vessel to a safe location where authorities continue to manage and contain the incident.

For the rapid response and support, Yacht Haven Grande and IGY Marinas would like to sincerely thank all the members of its staff, the WICO security team, Virgin Islands Fire Department, Virgin Islands Police Department, and members of responding teams including; first responders from the cruise lines, SeaTow, the U.S. Coast Guard, and additional various agencies.  As a direct result of their combined reactions, the incident was effectively contained.

As of 6:00 p.m. local time, the fire has been completely contained. The fire department is continuing to spread water on the areas still smoldering. The vessel has been secured and containment measures are in place around the vessel to address potential contaminants entering the water. Again, there are no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

No details of how the fire started have been made available. As part of Yacht Haven Grande’s security protocol, and in consideration of the privacy of the owner, captain or crew, the name of the boat and any related individuals will be withheld.
