Cabo San Lucas, Mexico | April 9th 2025 – IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas continues to strengthen its deep-rooted commitment to the local community through impactful charitable initiatives aimed at improving education to families in Cabo. With a focus on youth development and community support, IGY Marinas’ recent contributions highlight its dedication to fostering long-term positive change in Cabo San Lucas.
Transforming Education at León Cota Collins Primary School
Building on its decade-long support for local educational programs, IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas has completed another project to enhance the learning environment at Escuela Primaria León Cota Collins. The latest initiative is designed to support the students’ learning environment with the purchasing and installation of new air conditioning units in the classrooms. This investment will allow their use through the extreme summer temperatures offering an optimum learning environment for the pupils. Additionally, the marina donated didactic materials to aid in classroom learning.
This project marks another contribution made by IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas to Leon Cota Collins on the back of other initiatives such as construction of a new multi-purpose court with roofing, donation of high-tech classroom projectors, new sports equipment, garbage containers, iPads, and most recently, the refurbishment of the school’s basketball goals. These initiatives have directly benefited 450 students, providing them with improved educational resources and enhanced recreational opportunities.
“Seeing the joy on the faces of young people when they benefit from our efforts reminds us why we do this. It’s an honor to invest in the future of Los Cabos—whether through education or community events—and we take that responsibility to heart,” said Jesus Esquitel, Office Manager at IGY Cabo San Lucas.
For the past four years IGY Cabo San Lucas has been welcoming local school pupils to the marina to educate the students about how desalination works and the importance of water treatment. Engaging with the students are IGY’s Dock Master Augusto “Guty” Cachon and Marcos Rodriguez Sambrano, who explain the history of the marina, Cabo San Lucas, the desalination process and how the machinery works.
To mark these contributions the Leon Cota Collins School celebrated their Spring Festival, which IGY Cabo San Lucas was invited to inaugurate and be recognized for their contribution to the school and community. IGY Cabo San Lucas were presented with a statuette as a symbol of appreciation, presented in front of the families in attendance, before cutting the ribbon.
“Education is the cornerstone of a prosperous community,” stated Enrique Rivera, General Manager of IGY Cabo San Lucas. “By supporting these initiatives, we are securing Cabo San Lucas’ future and providing students with the tools they need to thrive.”
IGY appreciated the attendance of Cabo San Lucas delegate Karina de la O Uribe, Municipal Director of Education in Los Cabos Juana Ortiz Cruz, School Supervisor Jesus Ramiro Luna Rodriguez, Physical Education Supervisor Ricardo Hernan Manriquez Castillo, General Secretary Victor Castro, Education Coordinator Alicia Osuna and Engineer Jesus Davis Smith.
A Legacy of Community Commitment and Future Projects
For over a decade, IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas has been an integral part of the local community, supporting a range of social and environmental initiatives. Past contributions include housing projects for displaced employees after Hurricane Odile, hosting children’s days at the marina, building playgrounds for children with physical disabilities, constructing a fire brigade substation, and offering employee training programs to support high school and college education.
With a commitment to continue to invest in education and charitable programs, IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas solidifies its position as a key partner in the well-being and future of the region.
