Live Golfito – April 2024 | Volume 1, Issue 1

Welcome to Live Golfito, Our Monthly News Digest

MBG Enthusiasts,

When we attend global yacht shows, we get to meet and reconnect with so many of you.

The 2024 season began with Marina Director, Pedro Abdalla, attending the Palm Beach International Boat Show in mid-March.

“This is one of our best events,” he says. “This is because so many owners attend and we have the chance to talk about what we’re doing in Golfito, at the marina, our expansion and the unparalleled experiences of Nature which continue to inform our strong commitment to sustainable development. Walking the docks, meeting with partners, and plentiful parties enhance the boat show experience.”

Of course, there is no place like home, particularly Golfito. To continue our support of the local community and conservation efforts, we are hard at work in April celebrating with hands-on Earth Day activities, partnering with local organizations and continuing our sustainable development at the marina.

We’ll continue to bring you news from MBG each month, following this, our inaugural issue of Live Golfito. If you have a story idea, send it to Amy Halsted ([email protected]). If you’re willing, we’d love to quote you.

Happy Navigating!

MBG Conservation
Misión Tiburón, the compelling need to protect the oceans

  • 4.210.3 Hectares Conserved
  • 400+ Government Personnel Trained &Taught
  • 2000+ Tagged, Marked & Protected Sharks
  • 5000+ Children & Students Educated
The impact of Misión Tiburón is profound and rapidly expanding. With a mission “to protect and conserve our ocean and the wildlife it holds through education and scientific research,” co-founders Ilena Sanella and Andrés López have created Misión Tiburón through their deeply held belief that sharks are a keystone species and fundamental for the well-being of marine ecosystems.

With a dramatic decline in shark numbers in the past few decades, Ilena and Andrés have dedicated their lives to creating much needed solutions for the complex challenges oceans face while teaching basic understanding of ocean systems and the compelling need to protect them.

Both founders are marine biologists, and both hold Master’s degrees in Marine Resources Management and Wildlife Conservation and Management (Andrés and Ilena, respectively). Their team includes scientists, divers, photographers, and ocean lovers. They are joined by partners who believe in their vision of a healthier and cleaner ocean: MINAE (Ministry of Environmental and Energy Costa Rica), Coastguards, Ministry of Security of Costa Rica, and ACMC (Cocos Marine Conservation Area).

In addition, Misión Tiburón works closely with conservation groups who share the vision of conserving and protecting oceans. MisiónTiburón.org
