Live Golfito, May 2024, Volume 1, Issue 2

MBG Enthusiasts,

Thank you for your warm feedback to our inaugural edition of Live Golfito in April.

This month we are taking a closer look at our sustainable development of Marina Bahia Golfito residences, the incredible conservation of the celebrated OSA Peninsula, and starting a regular feature about experiences and tours with adventure-partner, Origen Escapes.

We’ll always write about what’s happening in the community and provide tips for getting here. We don’t want you to leave, so we’re not discussing going back!

As ever, if you have a story idea, send it to Amy Halsted ([email protected]).If you’re willing, we’d love to quote you.

Happy Navigating!

MBG Conservation
Osa Peninsula: A Thriving Environment & Engaged Community

A visit to Marina Bahia Golfito will surely feature an excursion to the Osa Peninsula. There is no place on Earth like it. Here, 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire planet is represented in less than a thousandth of a percent of its total surface area.

To protect it, the nonprofit, Osa Conservation, has a vision that Osa’s environment and communities thrive in perpetuity. Its mission is to conserve the globally significant terrestrial and marine biological diversity of the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica by implementing ecosystem stewardship, enhancing scientific understanding, providing education, and training, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.

Available to a wide array of visitors, including volunteers, Osa Conservation operates the Greg Gund Conservation Center and Piro Research Center with comfortable accommodations for field courses, student groups, researchers, conservation trips and other visitors to the Osa Peninsula. Its field campus is surrounded by rainforest and just a short walk from pristine beaches. Both facilities include the option of full meal plans with delicious traditional Costa Rican fare prepared by wonderful local chefs.

Osa Conservation believes in a holistic approach to conservation, one grounded in a systematic understanding of the ecological, social, and economic relationships that shape environmental problems. Its work is founded in science and supported by strategic partnerships, well-informed decision-making processes, and a strong commitment to improving lives through protecting Nature. Osa Conservation recognizes that in order for conservation to succeed, it must be coupled with science, community engagement, and strong systems of support upon which to collaboratively build a more sustainable future.

At the Golfito Triathlon, held Sunday, May 12, 2024—an eliminatory event of the World Triathlon Málaga 2024—323 competitors from seven Costa Rica provinces participated as well as a good representation of Panamanians. Categories included Youth Super Sprint (13 to 15 years), Junior Sprint (16 to 19 years), and Standard Elite (18 to 60+ years).

They are already preparing to provide national triathletes and their families with a very good experience,” commented Fabián Loaiza, manager of the FEUTRI (Federacion Unida de Triatlon Costa Rica) when announcing a return to Golfito in November 2024.

A proud sponsor of the event, the official start of the race kicked off at Marina Bahía Golfito with concluding ceremonies also held at MBG.

MBG Access
Jet-Setting Aboard Sansa Airlines

Celebrated for its remoteness, vast open spaces, swaths of conserved lands with a bay and ocean teeming with biodiversity, getting to Golfito is far easier than one might imagine.

Now with offices on site at MBG, SANSA (Servicios Aéreos Nacionales S.A) was founded more than 35 years ago by parent company LACSA, allowing the latter to concentrate on international flights with SANSA dedicated to domestic service.

Today, SANSA leads the market with daily flights all over the country and directly from SJO to Golfito. It takes a five-minute shuttle from the Golfito airstrip to the marina.

More, SANSA offers daily flights from San José‚ Costa Rica (SJO) to all the main tourist destinations in Costa Rica for further exploration.

In The News

“The expansion of our operations responds to the growth that this industry has had in Costa Rica. As a leading nautical supply company, we annually serve approximately 550 boats, providing them with up to 5,000 different products from 40 brands for all types of needs,” commented Vinicio Monge, general manager of CR Marine Supply.
Marina Bahia Golfito owner and developer, Enjoy Group, has taken full advantage of the marina’s deep water and sheltered position to reinvent the facility, and not only double its superyacht capacity but do so in style by extending the offering to yachts up to 100m (330ft) in length.
“Owners and guests aren’t the only ones who expect white-glove service. Captains and crew often have the first say in where megayachts go and where they stay. Equally important, they help make arrangements for on-land experiences for the owners and guests to enhance their travels. All of these are why MBG+ Service is now at the disposal of yacht—and land—visitors to Marina Bahia Golfito in Costa Rica.” writes MegayachtNews.com.
