Live Golfito, September 2024, Volume 1, Issue 5

MBG Enthusiasts,

It’s high season for yacht shows and we look forward to seeing you in Monaco and Fort Lauderdale.

Pedro Abdalla, Marina Bahia Golfito’s Director, is available to meet, answer questions, share experiences that await, and to talk about conservation and sustainable principles of development, the cornerstones of thoughtful advancement at MBG and throughout Costa Rica.

Reach Pedro at +506 83753000, on WhatsApp, and at the IYBA Lounge at MYS.

While coordinating yachts, adventurers, and innovative initiatives—particularly regarding conservation and sustainability—at the marina, we are also celebrating being awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest-ever land-based human whale, created by 466 people from Golfito.

Naturally, this kind of achievement plays well with our annual festival for children. It’s what it means to be in the southernmost Pacific setting of Costa Rica.

Pura Vida! Experience it With Us.

MBG Experiences
An Evening Sportfishing with Captain Bobby McGuiness

A group of adventurers set off for an evening of sportfishing with Captain Bobby McGuiness. They boarded the boat at sunset to kick off the consummate nighttime fishing adventure.

Being on board Cazador with Bobby and his crew means heading out to prime waters and the ultimate sportfishing experience. These guys are themselves seasoned fishermen, locals, and the ultimate sea enthusiasts. They know the fishing spots—and which species are where—and are the best, most hands-on, guides. Even more, they are sustainability teachers who are dedicated to understanding and respecting the sea and its creatures and conveying their care to all who recreate here.

Setting out from Golfito, the team found a wide variety of fish, southern Costa Rica being one of the most biodiverse places in the world. They caught several tunas and successfully followed the recommendations for catch-and-release sailfish.

Additionally, these evening anglers were able to see many families of dolphins and a whale with her calf.

MBG Community
A Guinness World Record & A Day for Children

466 people make a whale. The whale, dressed in white with a dark blue eye peering up from the sand, shimmered in the sun and seemed to beckon the wide Golfo Dulce to send waves and water to return to the sea.

But this human whale has more work to do. An ambassador of the way of life here and the brainchild of the Municipalidad de Golfito, this white whale achieved a Guinness World Record. Its certificate reads, “The largest human image of a whale is 466 people, and was achieved by Municipalidad de Golfito (Costa Rica) in Golfito, Costa Rica on June 8, 2024.”

Inspired by an amazing community of people who celebrate the amazing number of whales who return to the Golfo Dulce again and again, the Guinness recognition joins the certification of the region as a Whale Heritage Site in 2023, one of only eight worldwide.

Having fun at Marina Bahia Golfito is always available to children, too. On September 8th, we held our Children’s Day Celebration in the MBG Marina Village. Activities included wall climbing, recreational games (soccer, jump rope, tying balloon creatures), face painting, and more.

Unifying, exciting and just plain fun, families from Golfito, our guests and our collaborators take part in these festivities together.
