NATIONAL PARK OF LA MADDALENA ARCHIPELAGO

The National Park is a collection of islands, islets and rocks sculpted by the wind and it is a paradise for snorkeling and diving. If you are lucky, you can experience dolphins swimming close to your boat. La Maddalena is the main island, it is the archipelago's only inhabited center. To the southwest is one of the island's most beautiful coves, Cala Francese, bordered by two granite rock cliffs that shelter it from the wind. The wild island of Caprera is known for hosting Garibaldi during his exile and is home to his tomb. It is connected by an artificial isthmus to La Maddalena. Spiaggia del relitto, “beach of the wreck”, is the best known inlet; it is so named because it houses the wreck of a boat that sank in 1922.

TAVOLARA PUNTA CODA CAVALLO

The Protected Marine Area of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo protects around 58 squared miles of sea and about forty kilometers of coastal territory, considered among the most beautiful in Sardinia. Tavolara reaches 560 metres above sea level and is visible from afar, dominating the entire Gulf of Olbia. The village is home to a small harbour and two restaurants, and for the past few years the island has hosted the renowned Film Festival. It is also possible to visit the island by hiking or by following equipped trekking routes that are moderately challenging or more difficult for the better prepared.

SAN PANTALEO

The village of San Pantaleo is just beyond Portisco, it is one of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy with its narrow streets, colourful windows and a central square where people meet in the evening for an aperitif. The traditional market and the workshops of craftsmen and artists complete the picture. It is surrounded by rocky hills of pink granite and wild nature, ideal for hiking and trekking enthusiasts.

RENA BIANCA BEACH

The beach is located just over a kilometre from Portisco. It is a long sandy beach of fine white sand protected on the sides by cliffs and surrounded by lush Mediterranean scrub. It is equipped with sunbed rentals and restaurants and is one of the most renowned and beautiful shores in northern Sardinia.

OLBIA CITY CENTRE

The city of Olbia is the gateway to Sardinia and the main city of Gallura. It preserves the remains of one of the island's most important Roman cities, and evidence of its ancient past can be found around the entire city area. The narrow streets of the center are full of bars, restaurants and neat little stores. Walking down Corso Umberto I toward the sea, you arrive at the archaeological museum that collects artifacts from Phoenician, Greek, Punic and Roman times. Also worth seeing is the well-preserved Romanesque-style Basilica of San Simplicio, which is the most important religious monument in Gallura, built in the late 11th and early 12th centuries.

THE NURAGHE LA PRISGIONA

Tour the perimeter of the ruins of about 100 huts with the main nuraghe in the center. The nuraghe is situated in the municipality of Arzachena, on high ground, controlling a vast territory of which it was the political, economic and social landmark. Follow along across the street to the tomb of giants of Coddu Vecchiu.

MONTE ALTURA FORTRESS

Placed near the city of Palau, Monte Altura Fortress was built in the 19th century to defend the northern coast with views that sweep over the surrounding islands to Corsica. Known as one of the most beautiful fortresses in Europe, it is open for guided tours and hosts concerts and cultural events in the summer.

SA TESTA SACRED WELL

The Sacred Well of Sa Testa, is an archaeological site dating back to the Nuragic civilization. It is a magnificent example of a water cult site used until Roman times. It is located in Olbia along the road leading to Pittulongu lido
